The Never Ending Penalties
The games score was opened ten minutes in by Jordan Rossiter who scored on his debut after Blackman had made two previous saves. Liverpool looked to hold this advantage but Adam Reach scored a header in the 62nd minute. The game held this scoreline til the 90th and this is where it got crazy.
The game had to settled in extra time if the score held after this penalties it was. Jesus Joaquin Suso scored a scrappy goal in the 109th minute and Liverpool looked sure to win it. Middlesbrough were not done; in the last minute of the game they got a penalty. Bamford stepped up, and slotted it in at the Kop End.
So penalties it was. Balotelli stepped up and slotted his in. Bamford...., MISSES! Liverpool score and so do Middlesbrough. This continued until the fifth round where Sterling stepped up. He has a chance to settle it for all...., Saved!!! Jamal Blackman saves it and keeps his side in it. Vossen steps up and cooly puts it in. It went into sudden death penalties and neither side looked like loosing. Each of the next five takers for each side score . And now it's the keepers turns. Mignonette and Blackman coolly puts theirs in and here we go again. Balotelli, Goal. Bamford, Goal. It continues and now Suso steps up, he scores, 13-14 Liverpool. Now Adomah, he steps up and........MISSES, LIVERPOOL WIN. An astonishing scoreline this was 14-13 on penalties and a new record.
What a game this was and this is why I love soccer!
